Window Box Catio Installation

Installation of the window box catio requires some mechanical ability.

You may want to hire a handyman to do the job if you do not have the tools available and would be more comfortable having someone else complete the installation.

This instruction is for a wood frame window. Other material will require a different type fastener.

It is strongly recommended that this procedure be done with two people.

Safety is always the number one concern. If you ever feel uncomfortable about any tool you are about to use, STOP, get with someone knowledgeable about tools and get some training.

It is the smart thing to do.

1. Hold the catio up to the window. Verify that it rests easily on the window sill. Check that the edges of the catio mate with the window frame with a minimum gap.

2. Identify the locations to insert the screws for attachment. 2 Screws will be located on the back of the roof panel in the corners.

2 Screws will be located on the floor panel in the corners. 2 to 3 inch screws will be used to ensure good contact with thw window frame.

Mark the screw location on the catio with a pencil and drill guide holes only in the catio.

3. Place a level on the catio floor and adjust it so that it is level. Install the top screws first. Verify the the floor is level and secure the bottom screws.

At this point the catio will stay in place. Before the cat can jump inside, additional support is needed. The wall support is one option unless you have a 100lb cat. In that case, a support structure that extends to the ground is required.

4. Place the support panel in contact with the wall and the bottom of the catio. Push up slightly on the back of the catio. Firmly hold the wall support against the wall and the catio when attaching the screws. Don’t forget the pilot holes to prevent cracking.

The Catio is now ready for a cat!

After installing my first catio, my cat didn’t seem interested at all. We tried giving her treats and placed her inside. She just hopped down and went about her business. We thought we had just done all this work and she would not even go inside.

That didn’t last long. As soon as we stopped paying attension she hopped up and now spends many hours lounging in her catio. She will give us a friendly Meow when we come home at the end of the day and she seems to really enjoy being able sit outside at night and see whatever is going on out there.
